Team 3952 is Troy High School’s FRC team, founded in 2011. We made it to the World Championships in the 2021-22 season by winning the OC Regional.
Our team is divided up into 6 subteams: 3 on the “build” side, and 3 on the “admin” side:
We don’t require tryouts or prior experience, just be willing to learn and put in the effort and we’ll teach you as things progress. Come by to our booth at club rush (we’ll have the robot and we’ll also announce the booth #) to get more information about our first meetings.
During 1st semester we mainly focus on training newer members (how to write robot code, how to CAD, how to use the workshop tools, etc.). We usually meet Tuesdays + Thursdays at lunch in 408/425. Showing up to these will make you way more confident and prepared when the actual competition season starts since there’s a lot of nuance and specifics in FRC that a normal school course for these topics won’t cover.
During 2nd semester (when the build season starts) we’ll be meeting every day after school for at least 2 hours (though we do tend to stay longer), plus several hours on Saturdays. You don’t need to show up to every meeting for the entire time - many people in our team have other commitments that conflict with certain days. We’re more focused on what you’re able to contribute while you’re in the workshop (being productive, making a lot of parts, or other contributions). (editado)
FRC (First Robotics Competition) is a yearly competition run by FIRST. Every year in January, we get a new challenge (ex. grab rubber balls, shoot them into a hoop, and then climb monkey bars - Rapid React, 2021-22 season) that we need to build a full-sized robot to complete. In March we compete against other robotics teams (the events are called “regionals”), and if we win the regional then we can qualify for the World Championships in Houston in April.

FRC’s drive team is limited to 5 people (2 drivers, 1 coach, 1 human player, 1 technician). Of these, we’re planning to do tryouts for at least 1 or 2 of the positions (driver + human player), subject to change based on the upcoming season’s challenge. (We generally reserve coach for a previous driver, and technician as the software head in case a laptop issue comes up). Keep in mind that being on the drive team is also a major commitment and we’ll be considering that during the tryouts/application process. We’ll announce more info about applications, tryouts, and requirements later on.
